Verterra Winery brings a boutique, artisan approach to Leelanau Peninsula winemaking. Located in the charming village of Leland — home to the famous Fishtown historic district — the winery offers a convenient and delightful tasting experience in one of northern Michigan's most picturesque settings.
The name Verterra comes from 'truth of the earth,' and the wines reflect this philosophy. Winemaker Paul Quester sources grapes from carefully selected Leelanau vineyards and works with minimal intervention to let the terroir speak through each bottle.
The portfolio is thoughtfully curated, with strengths in aromatic whites like Grüner Veltliner and Gewürztraminer, elegant Pinot Noir, and a distinctive orange wine that showcases the winery's experimental spirit. Production is small, and the wines are primarily available at the tasting room.
Verterra's Leland location makes it easy to combine a tasting visit with exploration of Fishtown, shopping in the village's galleries and boutiques, and lunch at one of the excellent local restaurants.
