About Willow Vineyard

Willow Vineyard occupies a spectacular wind-swept hillside above Suttons Bay, established in 1992 by John and Jo Crampton as a labor of love that has grown into one of Leelanau Peninsula's most distinctive boutique operations. The panoramic views of West Grand Traverse Bay from the tasting area are among the finest on the peninsula.

The vineyard's elevated, exposed position creates a distinct microclimate that shapes the character of the wines — the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in particular show the freshness and energy that come from grapes grown in a cooler, breezier environment. The sparkling wines produced here are also worth seeking out.

The tasting room is open on a reduced seasonal schedule, which means visits feel genuinely special and unhurried. Willow rewards the visitor who does a little research before arriving — it's not the most obvious stop on the trail, but it's one of the most memorable.

Fun Fact
Willow Vineyard was established in 1992 by John and Jo Crampton as a work of passion rather than commerce — the couple designed the hillside vineyard and winery entirely themselves, and the wind-swept ridgeline setting they chose turned out to be viticultural gold, producing wines with a particular freshness and lift that comes directly from the exposed elevation.
