Chateau Grand Traverse holds a legendary place in Michigan wine history. Ed O'Keefe Jr. founded the estate in 1974 with a bold vision: to prove that the Grand Traverse region could rival the great wine regions of Europe. Sitting on the 45th parallel — the same latitude as Bordeaux, Burgundy, and the Willamette Valley — the estate's vineyards benefit from the moderating influence of Grand Traverse Bay, creating a microclimate ideal for cool-climate varietals.
Today, the winery farms over 120 acres of vines and is best known for its exceptional Rieslings, which have earned acclaim from wine critics worldwide. Their late-harvest and ice wine Rieslings are particularly celebrated, showcasing the unique terroir of Old Mission Peninsula.
The tasting room offers panoramic views of the bay and vineyards, and the estate hosts seasonal events, wine dinners, and private tastings throughout the year. Visitors can explore the production facilities and learn about the winemaking process from grape to glass.
