About Bel Lago Vineyard & Winery

Bel Lago Vineyard & Winery — 'beautiful lake' in Italian — earns its name with one of the most stunning settings on the Leelanau Peninsula. Perched on a bluff above Lake Leelanau, the estate offers sweeping views that enhance every visit.

The winery takes an estate-focused approach, growing the majority of their grapes on their own vineyards. This control over the farming allows winemaker Charlie Edson to make decisions in the vineyard that directly influence the quality and character of the final wines.

Bel Lago's Auxerrois is a standout — this rare Alsatian variety thrives in the local climate and produces a wine unlike anything else in the region. Their Pinot Noir and Gewürztraminer are also excellent, showing the range of what Leelanau terroir can achieve.

The tasting room is warm and inviting, and the outdoor deck — overlooking the lake and vineyards — is one of the finest spots in wine country to enjoy a glass of wine on a summer afternoon.

Fun Fact
Bel Lago, Italian for 'beautiful lake,' was among the first Michigan wineries to champion Italian grape varieties — their Tocai Friulano and Pinot Grigio draw direct inspiration from the vineyards of northeastern Italy, a nod to the Italian heritage of founder Charles Edson's winemaking philosophy.
